SWING A LITTLE – KIM A LITTLE

Another cigarette brand to propose another marketing plan to target woman, the picture sleeve shows 3 hyped ladies, behind a DJset (supposedly in a club) speaking about a 45 release, enjoying the slevve, the music and a good little Kim ! The stylish design of the pack and the cigs were made to attract the ladies. About the music : no title, band name or credit to be found, the single track od the 45, is a kind of late 60s groovy instrumental soundtrack with powerful horn lines, interrupted by a voice over by a woman asking to lite her Kim. But here it is taste it (speaking of the sound of course) !

Pan Am is a television series centered around the iconic airline Pan American World Airways during the early 1960s. The period drama, from writer Jack Orman (ER) and director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing), has a storyline that begins in 1963 and focuses on the pilots and stewardesses working for the world-famous airline.
The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, was picked up by ABC in May 2011 for the 2011–2012 television season. Sony licensed the rights to the Pan Am name and logo from Pan Am Systems, a New Hampshire–based railroad company that acquired the Pan Am brand in 1998.
Pan Am premiered on September 25, 2011.

» I’m Smoove, This is Turrell ! and all these guys are our family ! And you public you’re our children !

Smoove se marre : « Hey Mike take it easy ! This guy is crazy ! A 3.000 dollars keys ! ».

Enorme ! Setlist Hammond(intro)
You don’t know
Don’t go
Broke
Slowdown
In deep
Let yourself go
The difference-Gabriel
The Beggarman
I can’t give you up
Latin groove
Higher
Hardwork (présentation des musiciens)
…………….
I’m a man

A FILM BY ELAINE CONSTANTINE

This is a story of a youth culture that changed a generation and influenced songwriters, producers, DJs and designers for decades to come.

This is the story of Northern Soul.
Award-winning director Elaine Constantine will begin shooting her first feature-length film Northern Soul in January 2012 under Stubborn Heart Productions and in association with Baby Cow Films.

The film will tell the tale of two Northern boys whose worlds are changed forever when they discover black American soul music.

Northern Soul was phenomenally popular with British youths in the 1970s, taking the North of the country by storm.

Northern Soul the film intends to appeal to those generations of fans while attracting a modern audience who can relate to youth culture from another era. If you were there, you’ll know. If you weren’t there, you’ll wish you had been.

Jasmine Kara was born 1988 in a small Swedish town to an Iranian father and a Swedish mother. Even as a little girl she knew that music was her calling. Jasmine started performing at talent shows and took every chance she could get to get up on the stage. Singing and exploring new music was exciting and life ahead seemed beautiful for the young Jasmine.

Then her life took a very dramatic turn. In her mid-teens she fell in love for the first time. But this love soon turned out to be everything but an innocent teenage love affair. Jasmine quickly found herself trapped in a most abusive and totally destructive relationship and she started sinking deeper and deeper. This very dark period almost took her life.

When she was completely down and out, way down at the bottom a miracle happened. Someone gave her a guitar. And she remembered how good music used to make her feel. How music can heal.

Shortly thereafter Jasmine decided to break up and leave. She left the town she grew up in, the relationship that almost killed her – and her old life, in search for a new. She started travelling the world, determined to find a way to make a living as a performing artist.

When Jasmine arrived in New York she immediately knew she had come home. The city’s music scene in general and it’s jazz, blues and R&B clubs in particular made her realise that this was where she belonged. She started performing all over town and took every chance she could get to sing to anyone who’d listen. Gradually she started noticing how her powerful voice could move her audience, making her even more certain that this was what she needed to do for the rest of her life. However, that dream of a recording contract kept eluding her, depsite promises and close calls.

Eventually she was picked up by new indepenent label Tri-Sound. One of it’s founders was legendary record man Marshall Chess, who ended up as Jasmine’s Executive Producer on her debut album ”Blues Ain’t Nothing But A Good Woman Gone Bad”. A collection of classic old school blues and R&B-numbers, but with Jasmine’s trade remarkable voice, the album was recorded during 48 hours in the well-renowned Cosmos Studio in Stockholm, Sweden for a 2010 summer release.

Ever since her troubled teens, Jasmine had kept a diary, written notes and letters and a blog to document her dramatic roller coaster journey to where she arrived today. This material makes for very fascinating and captivating reading. SO much so, that her label decided to turn it into a autobiographic novel to be launched in conjunction with the album release. So far only printed in the Swedish language, the book is called ”Hälsa Henne Att Hon Ska Dö” (”Tell Her That She Is Dead”) and this debut marks the start of yet another creative aspect of the much talented and versatile artist that is Jasmine Kara.

Combining their love for original soul and rhythm & blues, the two set up a basic home studio in Venice Beach and started crafting the beginnings of Vintage Trouble.

Vintage Trouble, based in Los Angeles, is the brainchild of Ty Taylor (vocal) and Nalle Colt (guitar). Combining their love for original soul and rhythm & blues, the two set up a basic home studio in Venice Beach and started crafting the beginnings of Vintage Trouble.

Already a friend of both, Rick Barrio Dill (bass) came along and added his shared bass influences and energy into the newly formed project. To make the band complete, Richard Danielson (drums) was recruited not long after to add the authentic and edgy take that was needed on the drums.

With these collective energies and inputs in place, a new kind of soul band had been born with unlimited creativity and force.
The power foursome then moved to commune, create and rehearse amongst the famed musical lore of Laurel Canyon. Within two weeks of rehearsals in early 2010, the group quickly began playing local shows and late night speakeasies. Led by timeless vocal tone and presence, small tweed amps, and a mission to move as many people as possible, the band quickly gained a reputation as a high energy and truly mesmerizing live act whose performances feel like down-home revivals with an uptown edge. Sticking to their roots of mid-century original soul music and recording techniques, the band used a lean three-day recording session with full takes and no-frills to turn out 12 new songs a mere two months into the project. With singles like « Gracefully », « Nancy Lee », « Still & Always Will » and « Blues Hand Me Down », the resulting sound brings you back to the days of vinyl records, sweaty juke joints, and the feel and essence of the original soul movement.
Vintage Trouble. Get into it. And be prepared for the awakening.

Brighton : 26/27/28 august 2001.

Here’s some pictures of the Brighton Mod Weekender, 3 days of music, clothes, gigs, records, party, scooters, shopping,…

During daytime, it was cool to walk the Brighton lanes and see all these mods and scooters all around. Many scooters were really nice & sharp, the way i like, simple & stylish, without too many gadgtets.

3 nights at the Komedia theater, 2 rooms, in which you can always find a good selection of mixed sounds : R&B, early Soul, Northern Soul, Freakbeat, Ska… Well dressed people, mod or not, the general look was smart and cool. The Dorset Pub was also a cool meeting point before the Club, with DJs playing records

All the activities during the days were at the Volks, beside the Brighton Pier, with live music from HIGHER STATE, THEE VICARS & MARMALADESKY + market/record fair + The Action original memorabilia exhibition.

On the Sunday was the afternoon Ride out, and a impressing amount of Scooters park outside along the Seafront next to the Volks. We had enough time to see all the different styles and models, there was also a Scooter contest, but none of us were aware of it. The start of the Run was epic, with people going all the way, and quickly after it was going nowhere, nothing was really prepared and it was a little deception.

DJs Program:

NUTS DJ’s Pid, Lee Miller, Chris Dale & Rob Bailey
Friday: Dave Crozier (Mojo 2 Go Go) + Milton Wright Tenner (Hush Club)
Sat: Niamh Lynch
Sunday Mod/60’s room: Rhys & Joe (Horrors), Sarah & Holly (EWO/Double Sight Weekend) & Tomas Solomon McGrath (Pork & Beans)
Northern Soul room Ginger Taylor (Lancs Legend), Jo Wallace (Motown/Soul Satisfaction Comps), Chris Dale (Scenesville/Mousetrap) Nick Hackett (Lifeline/100 Club & Si Bridger
